ＥＷＳ通信５月号をお送りします。
風薫る５月となりました。４月２２日から２４日まで金子民雄博士秘蔵の東南アジア
の仏教美術品と陶磁器の展示会準備のため、新緑に染まる上野村に行ってきま
した。鶯の拙い鳴き声に愛嬌を感じながら、山桜、山吹、山つつじ、その他色とり
どりの花々が満艦飾の春を演出していました。長い冬の鬱憤を、一挙に晴らす
ような、自然界の営為です。 Ｍ.Ｋ

現在群馬県上野村にある美術館「森のギャラリー」でEWS主催の展覧会が開かれ
ています。EWS顧問である歴史家・金子民雄氏所蔵の東南アジアの貴重な仏
教美術を中心としたものです。タイやカンボジアから出土した１１～１３世紀の仏像や神像、
陶磁器（宋胡録）が展示されています。会期は５月１３日までです。
なお、５月２８日から６月２８日まで、ヒマラヤの写真家・千葉盈子氏写真展
ヒマラヤの花 青いケシの咲くところ」が同ギャラリーにて開催されます。

EWS研修旅行として、九州の名峰・九重山登山と「坊がつる賛歌」で知られるようになった
坊がつる高所湿原の探索を行います。ちょうどミヤマキリシマが咲き誇る美しい季節です。
現在、参加者４名ですが、参加希望の方はまだ間に合いますのでお知らせください。

EWSとドルポ基金が長年支援を続けてきたネパール、ドルポ出身のソナム・ドマさんは、
４月から大分市にある立命館アジア太平洋大学（APU）に留学中です。
ソナムさんからのリポートです。
April 1, 2018 – we had APU 2018 spring entrance ceremony. Students from 89 countries are
in APU so it was very enjoyable and our president of APU gave a welcome speech.
It was very interesting with lots of programs.
April 3, 2018 – All new students had general heath checkup. I got my recent Hepatitis B result ,
the nurse said it’s still not very bad but I should take care of my health properly and check again
within 2 years every time. April 9, 2018 – My classes started. I have 4 classes on weekdays.
We have some compulsory subjects like Study skills, Introduction to Asia Pacific Studies,
Leadership class and 3 Japanese classes. Its busy everyday but I am learning new things everyday.
I am also learning about time management to manage my time for study, making reports and assignments.
My dormitory – I live in 3rd floor of AP house 2. My floor mates are very kind. My roommate is Japanese,
she is from Osaka. Every month we have many floor activities and programs to understand,
help each other and become good friends.
My APU life – Whenever I have time, I take part in different extra curricular activities like
volunteering and leadership development skills programs. APU has teachers and staffs from
so many countries. It is the top global university in Japan now. The campus is full of diversity.
The rules and regulations of APU are very strict and it is very supportive for students who are willing to study very hard.
My extra curricular activities – I went to volunteer at a farm in Shonaimachi, it was very successful and great program.
I got my work permit last week .So I can work part time jobs now but I am waiting
for my bankbook which is also required to get part time job in APU.
So I will get my bank book in beginning of May, after that I will apply for part time job at APU.
My exam will begin in May 5th, so I am busy studying and preparing for my exam.
Thank you all very much for making it possible for me to study and have a rewarding student life at APU.

吾輩は猫である。名前は「わはは」。最近、主はよく散歩をする。まぁバカ犬どもの
ためなのだが、あることに気づいたらしい。今の季節、街路樹のハナミズキが心な
ぐさめてくれるが、実はあの樹木、以前、日本がワシントンに桜の木を贈った時に
そのお返しに、アメリカから日本に贈られたものらしい。しかも、アメリカでは「犬の
木」（dog wood）と呼ばれているそうな…犬だよ犬！何故かと言えば、ハナミズキの
樹皮を煮出したものが犬の皮膚病に効くからとか…でもさぁ、犬の木ってイメージ
ぶち壊し過ぎません？一青窈の代表曲が気の毒です。で、彼女の名曲はアメリカで
９．１１が発生した時、NYの友人から受けたメールをきっかけに生まれた曲ですが
「君と好きな人が百年続きますように」という歌詞はハナミズキの「永続性」という
花言葉に由来しているとか…どうにかイイ話になったニャン！ （か）
